'Rough night' of alleged assaults and break-ins in Adelaide suburb

Police at the scene of the alleged stabbing in Brunswick Street.

A man has been charged with attempted murder and five others have been charged with other crimes in what police have described as a "rough night" in the inner-north Adelaide suburb of Kilburn.

One of the crimes allegedly involved a crossbow and a taser.

Police said a man was stabbed in the back multiple times in an alleged assault on Brunswick Street about 1:00am.

The victim is recovering in the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) and is in a serious but stable condition.

Two men were detained at the scene.

One, a 20-year-old man from Kilburn, has been charged with attempted murder and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.

SA Police Senior Constable Peter Williams said the victim and alleged attacker knew each other.

"It was a bit of a rough night in Kilburn but everything seems to have sorted itself out and people have been arrested for the [alleged] offences they committed there," he said.

Crossbow and taser allegedly used in assault

Separately, four people were arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman outside her home in Goodman Avenue about 4:30am.

A man who came to her assistance was taken to the RAH for treatment, but the woman was not injured.

Police will allege a loaded crossbow and a taser they found in a car nearby were used in the fight.

Two men and two women in their 30s have been charged with offences, including aggravated assault, possessing prohibited weapons, aggravated serious criminal trespass and property damage.

The two men will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.

The women were released on bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in August.

Man found hiding in nursing home kitchen

Also at Kilburn, a 39-year-old man was arrested for allegedly breaking into the Churchill Retreat nursing home on Churchill Road.

Police were called to the aged care home at 11:30pm.

Senior Constable Williams said no-one was confronted during the break-in.

"Patrols searched the nursing home and located him hiding in a kitchen," he said.

"No staff members or residents were confronted by the man and it turns out that man [allegedly] tried to break into a house on Northcote Street and left some of his clothing at that scene."

He was charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass and being unlawfully on premises.

He is expected to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court today.
