Rotunda Hospital’s new measures to prevent mothers and babies catching COVID-19

The Rotunda hospital isn’t taking the coronavirus outbreak lightly, with a range of new measures to minimise the chances of expecting mothers and their children getting infected.

This comes after multiple cases of babies under the age of one caught the deadly COVID-19 virus.

To prevent these kinds of cases, the Rotunda has new markers to ensure people keep the two metre distance rule when queuing outside the hospital, while security enforce their new stricter visitor rules.

They have also welcomed dozens of new volunteer staff to help the Rotunda screen patients for COVID-19 symptoms.

There's also a dedicated COVID-19 phone number number, along with locations in the hospital to isolate those who are positive with the virus, or those who are likely to have it.

New social distancing measures have been placed in waiting areas within the hospital itself as well.

Finally, they’re also preparing COVID-19 tests on-site, in order to quickly test their staff for the virus.

The maternity hospital shared their various changes in a video, which has been well received by viewers.

Amy said: “Was in for several appointments yesterday and have to say staff were fantastic as always and everything ran so smoothly! Thank you so much to your wonderful team!”
