Rotoworld offers a favorable review of general manager Chris Grier

The lines between the job Chris Grier used to have and the one he currently holds now are quite blurred. Even though Grier’s title never officially changed this offseason, he’s operating with full power of the Miami Dolphins at his fingertips for the first time in his career. And while we know some of the details of how much power Grier held in previous years under Mike Tannenbaum, the best way to evaluate Chris Grier as a general manager is moving forward.

That sentiment is shared by Rotoworld’s Pat Daugherty, who recently released his ranking of all NFL general managers. Because of Grier’s status as a newly elevated employee, he didn’t get a ranking. But he did positive reviews for his efforts during the 2019 offseason.

“Although it is far too early to grade the results, Grier’s early process has been promising,” wrote Daugherty. “In free agency, Grier checked all his tanking boxes, cutting deadweight veterans like Danny Amendola, Andre Branch and Ted Larsen while unloading Ryan Tannehill and Robert Quinn via trade. Grier was methodical in his head-coaching search.”

The players Grier will replace this veterans with? That’s to be determined. But based on the cost and production on the field, there’s no doubt Grier — with a new emphasis on financial freedom — has been making the right calls with the axe.
