Rotherham are set to up their bid closer to £300,000 to land St Johnstone star Shaun Rooney.
Record Sport broke the story yesterday that the English League One side had made a £200,000 offer for the double-winning cup hero.
The bid is below Saints’ valuation and the Millers are set to try again.
Boss Paul Warne has targeted Rooney after his right-back Matt Olosunde turned down a deal.
Rotherham return to training this week and are keen to get a quick resolution as they look to put a squad together that can bounce back into the Championship at the first time of asking.
Rooney is in the final year of his contract but Saints won’t sell unless their valuation is met and boss Callum Davidson is keen to keep all his stars — especially for their Europa League assault.
Meanwhile, Saints will need to play the waiting game if they want to re-sign Glenn Middleton after a successful loan at McDiarmid Park last season.
He has since returned to Rangers, where he is currently training with Steven Gerrard’s first-team.
The Scotland Under-21 cap has a number of options in Scotland and England and has still to make a decision on his future.
It is also unlikely that if Middleton is sent back out on loan that it will be until all Gerrard’s first-team players are back for pre-season.
Davidson, however, has remained in contact with Rangers and is keen to work with him again.
