Rotherham and Gillingham aspects that could take Sadlier and Dempsey time to grow at Bolton

Ian Evatt has stressed that Kyle Dempsey and Kieran Sadlier must be given time to acclimatise to Bolton Wanderers after their late January transfer window moves and get used to their new surroundings.

Sadlier and Dempsey were the final two arrivals at Wanderers in a successful January of business where seven new additions were made.

Sadlier moved across the Pennines from Rotherham United, while Dempsey made a long awaited deadline day move from Gillingham.

The pair have both made just a handful of appearances so far in the opening weeks of their Bolton careers, with Sadlier making his first start for the club in the 3-1 loss on the road to Burton Albion in midweek, with four games so far.

Dempsey meanwhile has played four times as well, two of which have been starts.

Sadlier arrived from the Millers who operate in a different fashion to Evatt's side, while Dempsey arrived from the Gills where he was captain but played in a side with not as much tactical detail as Wanderers.

And Evatt has pointed to the duo coming into a Bolton team they are new to and doing things which neither were used to at their former employers and that it could take time for the pair to get used to Wanderers.

Evatt said: “They are just coming into a team doing brand new things that neither of them are used to doing.

“The last time I saw Steve Evans’ Gillingham team they didn’t really play with the tactical detail that we do, and that is no disrespect meant.

“Rotherham have had a lot of success but they play a completely opposite way to the way we do, so it might take a bit of time.

“We saw flashes from Kieran on Tuesday night and I thought Kyle played really well, his energy really helped us second half (vs Burton)."
