Rotary Club of Dumfries Devorgilla to open fundraising charity shop

Members of the The Rotary Club of Dumfries Devorgilla are set to open a charity pop-up shop in the town’s Loreburne Centre next week.

For a third year, they will set up shop in the former Body Shop unit across from Marks and Spencers from Thursday, November 24 to Saturday, November 26, to raise funds for worthy causes. They hope shoppers will call in to purchase some of the range of new and pre-loved items on offer, including DVDs, books and bric-a-brac and some real bargains that you can no longer get on the high street.

There will also be a tombola with prizes on offer every day.

It will be manned throughout by volunteers from the Rotary Club whose service and environment convenor, Charles Milroy, said “We are really excited to open the shop and be given the opportunity for which we are really grateful for the assistance of the Loreburne Centre and Michael O’Hagan.

“The pop-up will be a great way to raise money with every purchase made going to local charities and youth organisations.

“In previous years an amazing £8,000 has been raised with charities such as Cash for Kids benefiting.

“We are therefore delighted to have been given this empty property in a prime location again by the Loreburne Centre and hope we can further benefit local causes.”

They are looking for community support and are asking for any donated unwanted goods which they can sell on to be handed into the shop on Wednesday, November 23.

Anyone with a lot of unwanted items – from musical instruments to perfume – should contact Charles Milroy to arrange drop off or collection at j9lo.basraprt@gmail.com.
