Ross Wilson talks up Rangers next generation as Ibrox kids bag title and European jaunt

Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson believes the future is bright for the club after their under-18 side picked up their third consecutive league trophy.

A 3-1 win over St Mirren yesterday secured the Ibrox kids the title, which also sees them picking up a spot in the UEFA Youth League for the third year in succession.

Wilson believes the young prospects have shown great resilience to top the league in a particularly challenging season due to coronavirus.

And he also hopes the side will provide Steven Gerrard with his next set of first team stars as they continue to develop a 'Rangers identity'.

He said: “I’m delighted to extend my congratulations to our U18 team following the lads lifting a third consecutive league championship trophy.

"I am particularly pleased for this group of players as this season has been an extremely difficult one given the impact of coronavirus forcing them to spend large periods at home at a crucial part of their careers and in their development.

"As we build our football identity, we asked the coaching team to work hard to align and embed many of the team principles that Steven Gerrard and the coaching staff have implemented in our first team.

"We have been really pleased to see that Rangers identity developing.

"Furthermore, we have a desire to keep challenging the development of our young players through a varied games programme.

"We again can look forward to the excellent challenge of the UEFA Youth League in 21/22 for a third year in a row.”
