Ross Wilson's unorthodox Rangers methods saluted as ex-Ibrox star predicts Premier League gold standard

Former Rangers keeper Cammy Bell reckons Ross Wilson's plan to take Rangers to the same level as top Premier League sides will come to fruition if the club continues to back the sporting director.

The 33-year-old Queen's Park keeper has aspirations of his own to make a splash as a behind the scenes operator once he hangs up his gloves.

And having forged a relationship with Wilson over the years, Bell is convinced that his road map to success is destined to take Steven Gerrard 's side to the summit of Scottish football again.

He told the Mail on Sunday : "I’ve spent some time with Ross, who I think is a phenomenal guy in the role that I ultimately want to get myself to. His ideas are second to none, he has huge contacts in the game and his forward-thinking is exceptional.

"I got to know him through my agent some years ago, we had a few chats and it progressed from there. Since he got to Rangers we’ve managed to meet up a few times and it was great to go back up to the training ground and see the facility now.

Rangers keeper Cammy Bell is now with Queen's Park (SNS Group)

"Rangers now want to go into the right direction, with a guy as a director of football who has huge experience in the English Premier League — the top league in the world.

"To try and bring that quality of operation to Rangers should hopefully stand the club in great stead for 10 years or so to come.

"Some of his ideas he comes up with, you would never have come up with yourself. But then you totally understand it when he explains it to you.

"Ross has done it for many years now, been at different clubs, he was so successful with his recruitment-driven ideas at Southampton. It’s really interesting to hear the way that he thinks and how he is looking to develop the club. The fans don’t see what is going on off the pitch, what he’s creating there.

"The plans he has and the way he’s trying to develop the club to be on a par with the top English clubs is phenomenal. That’s what Rangers are aspiring to be, at that elite level. I am sure if he can get everything he has planned they can get there soon."
