Ross Wilson reveals Rangers Dutch transfer agreement before deal collapsed

Ross Wilson has revealed that Rangers had agreed on a deal with a Dutch player after being quizzed on the club's recruitment.

The Ibrox sporting director was put under the spotlight at the club's AGM today and recruitment was a major talking point.

One supporter was keen to discuss why no Dutch players had been brought in during Giovanni van Bronckhorst's era as manager.

He said: "We brought in a Dutch management team but why did we not bring in a single Dutch player?"

Wilson then responded: "The manager has the final day on transfers and every player that comes in. We agreed terms with one Dutch player who then choose another club."

Meanwhile, Wilson also updated concerned supporters about the current injury crisis at the club.

Van Bronckhorst went into his final game as manager against St Mirren without a clutch of key players.

Top scorer Antonio Colak, Ben Davies, Fashion Sakala, Ridvan Yilmaz, Kemar Roofe, Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, John Souttar, Ianis Hagi and Tom Lawrence were all missing. Ryan Jack returned after another injury, but Van Bronckhorst had to dip into the club’s academy to fill the bench.

Teenage defender Leon King had to go off with concussion, leaving midfielders James Sands and John Lundstram playing as centre-backs.

The manager lamented the club’s lengthy injury list since the start of the season in an interview with Sky Sports last week.

On the issues, Wilson added: "Injuries have been a concern this season. We were worried about it ahead of this condensed season and that’s been the case.

"We are really pleased that in the last week we have seen players return to the group and they’d great to see."

New boss Michael Beale added: "It’s been pleasing to see players coming back quickly but we can’t rush them. Consistency in training will now help."
