Ross Wilson reveals Rangers' Alfredo Morelos 'agreement' over summer transfer

Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson has admitted the club had an agreement with Alfredo Morelos to sell him if the right offer came in - but nobody met their valuation.

The Ibrox striker hit 30 goals last season and was the top scorer in the Europa League group stage during a superb campaign and was widely expected to secure a big-money exit in the summer.

Morelos was strongly linked to French Ligue 1 side Lille with club president Gerrard Lopez admitting a £16.5m deal had been rejected.

And Wilson has now revealed that an agreement was in place with the striker to depart should a club meet Ibrox demands, thought to be in the region of £20m.

Ryan Kent was also subject of a bid from Premier League new boys Leeds United but the Ibrox sporting director insists the notion of the flying winger moving was always a non-starter.

He told Rangers TV : "There's always lots of noise here. That's one thing I've learned here across my year in post. There is an incredible amount of noise. We try and do our business here quietly now and try and make sure the players we bring in we do so on a confidential and private basis and keep our business to ourselves.

"We work under the radar if we can, that's one of the things that I communicate to our scouts all the time. Steven and his team have a really clear plan of how we want to work and we don't have to go shouting from the rooftops about what that plan was.

"The two guys you mentioned (Kent and Morelos), you're right there was a lot of noise.

"Victor Orta is the sporting director at Leeds United and somebody I respect and is a good friend of mine. He's already spoken about Ryan Kent and said Rangers made it very clear he wasn't for sale and that would be true because it was never in our plans that he would leave Rangers. That was clear.

"Alfredo is slightly different. Again a lot of noise. Not a lot of it right I have to say.

"We had interest in Alfredo and we had an agreement that if there was a club that met a valuation that we had in mind then we would look at that.

"That valuation wasn't met and we rejected some offers for him because they didn't meet that valuation and he remains with us going forward and we will see what the future holds for him."
