Ross Wilson latest as Rangers director of football target clears way for Ibrox switch

Ross Wilson has reportedly stood down from his position at Southampton, clearing the way for a move to Rangers .

The talent spotter has been identified as the man to replace Mark Allen as director of football at Ibrox and is expected to be confirmed on Monday.

Wilson agreed the finer detail of a move to Govan over the weekend and now, according to The Telegraph , has resigned from his position at St Mary's.

The 36-year-old was a central figure at Saints and was behind the move to take Ralph Hassenhuttl to St Mary's. He was also credited with the signing of Virgil van Dijk who was sold on for huge profit.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard made contact with Wilson last week as the Ibrox club made their move to find Mark Allen's replacement following the former man City chief's shock resignation last month.

It comes just two years after Wilson turned Rangers down to remain in position at Southampton .

But it looks like they will get their man at the second time of asking and Wilson will take up a similar role to the one he occupied at St Mary's in recruitment and scouting.

He will also be tasked with improving infrastructure around the club including the academy and Hummel Training Centre.
