Ross Wilson has Rangers exit chance 'too good to turn down' as sporting director told fan dismay only ends one way

There could be a way back down south - and one former player reckons it might just prove enough to take Ross Wilson away from Rangers.

The Ibrox sporting director is claimed as a target for the same position at Nottingham Forest and speculation has ramped up that he could be on his way to the Premier League side currently fighting for survival. Wilson has brought in millions to the Govan club through the sales of Joe Aribo, Calvin Bassey and Nathan Patterson, but his recruitment has come under scrutiny recently.

Fans have launched protests against him alongside Rangers managing director Stewart Roberson, and Ibrox favourite Kris Boyd, believes it might be a good thing for all involved in Wilson were to leave for Nottingham, as fan ire usually has one conclusion. He told Sky Sports: "When that’s your role at the football club you’re always going to be judged on it. There’s been a lot of criticism and I’ve had my say on it as well.

“There’s no doubt the recruitment over the last few years hasn’t been good enough. There’s no getting away from it, fans have had enough and you’ve seen them turn on Stewart Robertson and Ross Wilson.

“You don’t like to see it but they are the ones paying the money and turning up and they want better. Ross Wilson could have the opportunity to go to a massive football club in Nottingham Forest.

"You’d feel it would be too good to turn down. They’re in the Premier League and okay they are fighting for survival but you’ve got a chance if you go back down to come back up and consolidate yourself as a Premier League club.

"That’s where Nottingham Forest want to get back to, playing every year at that elite level. Ross Wilson will want to be part of it if that’s the case.

"At Rangers there’s been a lot of good things, it’s not all been negative but when the fans start to voice their opinion on the level they have recently it’s only going to end one way. If there is an opportunity for Ross Wilson to get out at this moment in time it could be best for all parties.”
