Ross Wilson and Rangers gain access to transfer trump card ahead of defining January window

Scottish Premiership sides Rangers, Hibs and Motherwell are set to reap the rewards from a new transfer innovation ahead of a defining January window.

The trio have become regulars at TransferRoom - the virtual signing portal that brings some of the biggest clubs in the world together to discuss deals.

And they have now launched Expected Transfer Value (xTV), to attach real time valuations on players to help clubs make better decisions over potential signings.

Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson has championed Transfer Room over the years, and was even keynote speaker during a previous event earlier in 2021.

Former Hibs sporting director Graeme Mathie was also a firm believer in the service - which has previously been dubbed football's equivalent to speed dating.

Motherwell are also regulars and Ross County were namechecked as being involved during an event in 2020.

Rangers will be seeking an edge in the transfer market in January with a new manager as the club looks to find a gem in the wake of £23.5m losses.

And HIbs are expected to be active after CEO Ben Kensell admitted their summer window "wasn't good enough."

Daniel Blades, head of Transfer Room's data intelligence, is convinced the new algorithm will prove to be a game changer.

He said: "Our xTV feature gives players an economic value, rather than being merely an indicator of ability, giving our users a reliable guide to the cost of a deal to buy-or sell - them based on constantly-updated real-life market information."

The Ibrox side are acutely aware of the importance of the looming window, with automatic entry to the group stage of next season's Champions League awaiting the winners of this season's Scottish Premiership.

Rangers currently hold a four-point advantage over rivals Celtic as they look to thrive in the wake of Steven Gerrard's exit to Aston Villa.
