Ross Wilson 'agrees to join Rangers' as Southampton talent spotter set to become director of football

Rangers are set to appoint Ross Wilson as their new director of football, according to a report.

The Southampton head of football operations emerged as the club's top target to replace the departed Mark Allen last month.

And now that search could be about to end.

The Scottish Sun report Wilson has agreed a deal to replace Allen and his arrival could be formally announced on Monday.

Wilson turned down the job two years ago and has since been lauded for his recruitment work at St. Mary's, which followed stints with Huddersfield and Watford.

Wilson later insisted that the timing was wrong for him to sign up at Ibrox.

But Rangers re-opened talks a fortnight ago in light of Allen's exit and it's reported Wilson is eager to return to Scotland.

He's expected to shake things up behind the scenes and could bring his own backroom team to Glasgow.

Allen left the club in September, citing family reasons and a desire to explore other opportunities.

The former head of Manchester City's academy was behind the move to bring Steven Gerrard to Ibrox as boss.

He oversaw two busy summer transfer windows, culminating in the £7million signing of Ryan Kent from Liverpool on deadline day in August.
