Ross Pierschbacher’s versatility makes him a perfect fit for Washington

As the 153rd overall pick in the NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins feel that they got a very valuable piece in Ross Pierschbacher with their 5th round pick.

Already, the rookie offensive lineman has proved to be a remarkable asset proven by is experience bouncing around the front line throughout his college career. The Redskins are far from set up front, and Pierschbacher could help filling in some gaps where they need him.

In his career at the University of Alabama, Pierschbacher started 42 games at left guard, before moving to center prior to his final year in college. The transition went over smoothly, and he was named an All-American and finalist for the Rimington Trophy at the position. He also played a short stint at right guard for a brief amount of time to start the 2016 season, according to Redskins.com.

Aside from his versatility up front, Pierschbacher is also familiar with the faces around him. We have already noted the endless cast of Roll Tide alumni now wearing a Redskins uniform, but Pierschbacher has something else in common with another Washington player.

Both he and fellow lineman, Brandon Scherff, are from Iowa. Pierschbacher is the first athlete to come from the town of Cedar Falls, Iowa, since 1930, and when he made a recruiting visit to the University of Iowa campus, his host was none other than Scherff himself.

When the Redskins drafted Pierschbacher, Scherff reconnected with him right away, and encouraged him to bring along his fishing pole, according to Redskins.com.

With his ability float around the offensive line and fill in where need be, as well as his ability to connect with teammates around him, Pierschbacher looks like a Redskin for years to come.
