Ross Moriarty suffers serious injury on Dragons return as cries of pain heard in stadium

Wales back-rower Ross Moriarty has suffered what appears to be a serious knee injury in the Dragons' clash with the Sharks.

As the game approached the half hour mark, the Welsh side lost ball at their own lineout and it led to Phepsi Buthelezi charging at the Dragons line.

Moriarty, who had shown up superbly in his first game back since the Six Nations, came up to meet him but got himself in an awkward position during the collision.

Cries of pain were picked up by pitchside microphones as referee Ben Blain stopped the game immediately.

A number of minutes passed as Moriarty's left knee was put in a brace before he was put onto a stretcher and replaced by Taine Basham.

It's a cruel blow for Moriarty, who now looks unlikely to feature again this season, having missed so much of it with a shoulder injury that he suffered against the All Blacks last autumn.
