Ross McCrorie suffers a Portsmouth debut to forget as Rangers loanee sees red

Ross McCrorie has has endured a nightmare start in League One after being sent off in his debut for Portsmouth.

The Rangers loan star was given his marching orders for two bookable offences against Shrewsbury with his afternoon ending in the 81st minute.

Pompey boss Kenny Jackett gave the Scotland youth international the big sell upon his arrival and Steven Gerrard is hoping for a Greg Docherty type impact before McCrorie returns to Ibrox next summer.

The 21-year-old, who has a January recall option, will miss the League Cup tie against Birmingham midweek but could return against Tranmere.

McCrorie made 31 appearances for the Ibrox side last season but Gerrard couldn't guarantee first-team football due to the depth in central midfield.

But a season on the south coast should allow the Rangers rising star to learn from his mistakes - including the overeagerness that led to his sending off in the 1-0 defeat to Shrews.
