Ross McCrorie snubs late Sunderland interest as Rangers defender seals 12-month Portsmouth loan deal

Rangers star Ross McCrorie has signed a one-year loan deal to join English League One side Portsmouth after snubbing a late bid from Sunderland.

As exclusively revealed by Record Sport , McCrorie put pen to paper at Fratton Park and Kenny Jackett’s men will have an option to buy the player at the end of next summer.

McCrorie and his representatives flew to the south coast on Friday morning to clinch a deal.

Record Sport can also reveal that Jack Ross’s Sunderland came in with a last bid to try and tempt the 21-year-old to join the
Wearsiders but McCrorie’s mind was already made up.

McCrorie is delighted to have signed for Pompey who have promised the player a regular diet of first team football.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard issued no guarantees to McCrorie who did not wish to be a bit-part player at Ibrox this season.

Jackett has been a long-term admirer of the Scotland Under-21 midfielder and hopes that McCrorie can help spearhead Pompey’s promotion bid as they aim to get back to the English Championship.

The utility man made his first-team debut under former Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha two years ago and made 30 appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side last term.
