Ross McCrorie rewarded for Aberdeen form with first Scotland call-up

Ross McCrorie has been rewarded for his impressive start to life at Aberdeen with a first call-up to the Scotland top team.

The 22-year-old will join twin brother Robby in Steve Clarke ’s A-squad for the Nations League double header against Slovakia and Czech Republic next week.

Before then the midfielder will skipper Scot Gemmill’s under 21 side against Czech Republic tomorrow in their latest Euro qualifier.

McCrorie moved from Rangers to Aberdeen initially on loan in August but will make the switch permanent next summer.

He was well down Steven Gerrard's pecking order at Ibrox after a loan spell at Portsmouth last season. But his Pittodrie career has got off to a flier with eight wins from 10 matches and two goals.

Pittodrie boss Derek McInnes described the player as a ‘Rolls-Royce’ after a recent win at Hibs.

Clarke will welcome McCrorie into his squad for the Nations League clashes after losing six of his initial squad to injury and Covid.

Stuart Armstrong is isolating after testing positive for the virus while Kieran Tierney and Ryan Christie are also in quarantine due to being in close proximity to the Southampton star.

Scott McKenna, Liam Palmer and Ollly Burke have been ruled out through injury.

Scotland, currently top of their Nations League group, face Slovakia at Hampden on Sunday and then the Czech Republic on Wednesday, again at the national stadium.

Hibs defender Paul McGinn is now set for a call-up. According to the Scottish Sun, 29-year-old McGinn will not be involved in tonight's match against Israel but will join up tomorrow in time for the Nations League matches against Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
