Ross McCrorie quizzed on Rangers future as loanee opens up on his Portsmouth injury hell

When Ross McCrorie made his return to the Portsmouth team at the weekend, it will have come as a huge relief.

His last action on the pitch had come two months prior, when the latest recurrence of a hamstring injury forced him off against Ipswich at Fratton Park.

The Rangers loanee had been named on the bench in the previous four matches before taking on Shrewsbury on Saturday, but Kenny Jackett, having watched him struggle with his fitness this season, wanted to make sure the time was right.

He was thrown on for the final half hour against the Shrews, however, helping his side to a clean sheet and an important 2-0 victory.

And now he's back on the pitch, McCrorie has reflected on a 'frustrating' period which saw him return to Glasgow for rehab.

And having managed just 13 appearances for Pompey so far, he says he has plenty more to offer.

"It's been hugely frustrating (the injuries), especially when I think I've been fine, and then it (the hamstring setback) happened again," he said via Portsmouth's YouTube channel.

"I think we took an extra couple of weeks to make sure it was right, so hopefully this is a good sign, hopefully I'll hold out and it will be fine.

"I did a lot of strength work with the physios down here and the physios up at Ibrox to make sure it doesn't happen again.

"So I feel strong, I feel fit again, and I think I showed that at the weekend. I felt strong and raring to go.

"I’ve definitely got a lot more to offer.

"Obviously, I've been hindered a bit with my injuries this season and have a lot more to offer the fans down here in Portsmouth.

"There's a lot of games coming up, and, along with all the boys in the changing room, we want to do well this season."

He wasn't to be drawn into talk about his future, however.

When asked if he would be staying at Portsmouth or returning to the Scottish Premiership, he said his sole focus remains on getting Pompey into the Championship.

"I'm not looking at the end of the season," he went on.

"I'm focused on Portsmouth, Portsmouth's my club right now and my aim personally is to aim for promotion.

"I’m sure all the boys in there are the same so I'll just focus on getting myself fully fit, focus on the now, and the other things will take care of themselves at the end of the season."
