Ross McCrorie joins Rangers on Dubai trip while Filip Helander is pictured on crutches ahead of flight

Ross McCrorie has joined Rangers on their trip to Dubai during the winter break.

The versatile midfielder has been out on loan at Portsmouth since the summer but there is an option to recall in January.

And Steven Gerrard has included him in the squad to travel to Dubai as the club step up their preparations for the second half of the season.

McCrorie last played for Portsmouth on December 21 but limped off with a hamstring injury and he could purely be using this trip to rebuild his fitness.

His loan spell hasn't been the easiest with a red card on his debut mixed with injury issues causing some problems.

He has made just 15 appearances with the majority of those coming at right back.

Joining him on the flight is injured Swedish defender Filip Helander who is still on crutches and in a moon boot.

The initial diagnosis of Helander's injury said he would be missing for six weeks but it looks doubtful that he will return before the end of January.

Many of the squad are already in Dubai having chosen to head there on holiday at the start of the break.

The likes of Andy Halliday, Allan McGregor, Glen Kamara and Wes Foderingham are among the players already there.

Youngsters Kai Kennedy and Lewis Mayo are also on the trip. Rangers will face Lokomotiv Tashkent in a friendly during their training camp.
