Ross McCrorie Aberdeen signing picture leaked as midfielder seals move from Rangers

Ross McCrorie has been pictured holding an Aberdeen top in a leaked photo confirming his move to the club.

The versatile midfielder will head to the Dons on loan with a permanent deal agreed and fans got an early glimpse of him in the top when it was leaked online.

The Scotland U21 skipper started well at Rangers under Steven Gerrard but has found game time hard to come over the last year or so and spent last season on loan at Portsmouth.

McCrorie had looked like joining Hibs but Derek McInnes swooped to take him north.

McCrorie arrived on the Ibrox scene under former boss Pedro Caixinha who famously said: "Ross McCrorie is going to be one of the best centre halves in history, not just for this club but for this country."

While the youngster didn't live up to that high billing he was solid through most of his 55 appearances in Light Blue and was highly-rated by many fans.

The 22-year-old arrives desperate to further his career after spending last season on loan in England's League 1 with Portsmouth.

He played 23 games for Pompey as they reached the play-offs but narrowly missed out on returning to the Championship after defeat from Oxford United.

The players's adaptability will be highly prized by Aberdeen who are in the midst of a squad crisis with eight of their stars facing bans due to breaching coronavirus lockdown rules.

The club have had three matches called off already this season, and they are set to play a rescheduled clash with St Johnstone on Thursday.
