Ross Kemp updates viewers on Dame Barbara Windsor's Alzheimer's condition

Ross Kemp updated Good Morning Britain viewers about Dame Barbara Windsor's condition.

Ross spoke to his Eastenders screen mum, Barbara, who played Peggy Mitchell in the soap, at the weekend over Facetime.

With Dame Barabara now living in a care home, Ross, 56, has taken over her duties as an ambassador for the Royal British Legion's annual Poppy Appeal.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain today, Ross - who starred as Peggy Mitchell's son, Grant, in his Eastenders stint, said: "The reason I’m [speaking about the Royal British Legion] today is because, effectively, I’m standing in for [Barbara].

"I spoke to her on Sunday on FaceTime with her husband Scott, she recognised me, but we have to be realistic that there is no cure for Alzheimer’s.

"It’s probably not going to get much better for her."

Dame Barbara, 82, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2014 and moved to a London care home in July 2020 as her dementia advanced during lockdown.
