Ross Kemp does time in Belmarsh prison to investigate life behind bars

Ross Kemp is going into one of Britain’s most notorious prisons to find out what really goes on behind bars.

The investigative journalist is heading inside HMP Belmarsh for a new ITV series when he will talk to inmates in the high-security category A prison and learn about the attempts being made to stop them reoffending.

A show source said: “ITV have been granted unique access to Belmarsh.

“It holds some of the country’s most dangerous prisoners – the first time cameras have been into this prison in decades.

“A focus will be on innovative ways staff attempt to rehabilitate prisoners. They educate them in business and encourage entrepreneurialism.

“The aim is to create opportunities on the outside that will keep them straight long term.

“It will film Ross talking to inmates from petty thieves to hardened criminals and observe the staff, from officer to Governor.”

Kemp is likely to meet murderers and terrorists at the prison in South East London but he has tackled gangs in Brazil and terrorists in Afghanistan.

It will be his second project for ITV this year as he is also probing the effect austerity has had across the country.
