Ross Forbes rejoins Dumbarton after leaving Forfar Athletic

Ross Forbes has completed a sensational deadline day return to Dumbarton.

The midfielder, who captained the club following Andy Dowie's departure last year, returns to the club having left in May for Forfar Athletic and signs a deal until the end of next season.

Forbes, 30, makes this his third spell at Dumbarton having played a key role in the Sons winning the 2008/09 SFL Third Division title.

This season he made 27 appearances for the Loons - scoring six times and assisting seven goals.

The former Motherwell man played 43 times for the Sons last season, scoring 13 goals and setting up nine in the process.

However he turned down the offer of a new deal with the club in May, inking a two-year deal with Jim Weir's Forfar Athletic - who had challenged for promotion the season previous.

It's been a year to forget for the Loons who currently sit ninth in the League One table, with Weir having been replaced by former East Kilbride gaffer Stuart Malcolm.

Forbes becomes the club's fifth signing of the January window after Callum Wilson arrived from Partick Thistle, Sam Wardrop from Dundee United, Jai Quitongo from Machine Sazi and Robert Jones from Stranraer.

In a busy window the Sons have also recruited former Dundee and Raith Rovers manager Barry Smith as their new assistant, whilst Reghan Tumilty, Matthew Shiels, Adam Frizzell, Conor Scullion and Jordan McMillan have all left the club.
