Ross County win was all about the points for boss Jim Goodwin as St Mirren tighten grip on top half spot

Jim Goodwin admitted Saturday’s win over Ross County wasn’t easy on the eye.

But he’s adamant the Buddies picking up all three points was all that mattered as they moved even closer to sealing a historic spot in the top half of the Premiership.

The Saints looked understandably tired given their frantic run of February fixtures.

And manager Goodwin paid tribute to his determined St Mirren side for pulling together to get the job done when it counted.

He said: “It was our 11th game in something like 32 days and there were tired legs out there.

“For the boys to have put in that effort is great credit to the group.

“We’d have loved to have played better, but it’s about the result.

"First half we were better and got in decent areas. There weren’t enough good crosses and we didn’t make Laidlaw work enough.

"We had a brilliant chance from a set-play and Laidlaw made a great save. Other than there weren’t any other clear cut chances.

"I’ve got to give credit to John Hughes, he made changes and they had more of an attacking threat in the second half.

"Jak Alnwick made a brilliant save from Jordan White to keep us level.

“I thought a draw would have been fair but to have all three points, I’m delighted with that."
