Ross County forced into Covid 19 shutdown as positive tests cast doubt on Premier Sports Cup opener

Ross County have been forced into a Covid-19 shutdown after several positive tests among players and staff.

A statement from the Staggies on Tuesday morning announced a precautionary measure to suspend football operations in a bid to prevent further spread of the virus.

It's unclear whether the outbreak will affect County's Premier Sports Cup opener away to Forfar Athletic at the weekend.

Malky Mackay 's side are due to get their season under way against the Loons on Saturday but will now, at least, be without "a number" of players and staff.

A spokesperson for the Premiership club said: "A number of Ross County players and coaching staff have tested positive for COVID-19. As a precaution the club has temporarily suspended football operations to prevent any further spread of the virus."

It remains unconfirmed how many have tested positive for the virus but the enforced action comes as a real blow to County 's pre-season plans.
