Ross County boss Adams admits opposition could be inspired by scathing comments

Ross County manager Derek Adams accepts opposition teams could be out to prove a point against his side following his scathing assessment of the standard of the cinch Premiership.

Adams hit out at a lack of entertainment and described the standard of games following his return to Scottish football as “rubbish” and “shocking” after his side conceded the only goal against Dundee last weekend in the dying seconds of the game.

County now face a Hibernian side whose manager Nick Montgomery fundamentally disagreed with his counterpart’s claims.

Adams could inadvertently have handed Montgomery and the rest of the top-flight managers their team talk for the upcoming games against County.

When asked if other teams could be out to prove a point, the former Morecambe, Bradford and Plymouth manager said: “There could be a bit of that, but generally speaking I spoke about the last five games.

“I spoke about the games that I witnessed. I didn’t speak about every other team in the league.

“I spoke about the games and how they were played since I came back, that’s all I said.”

Adams apologised to his players after claiming Morecambe were “100 times better” than his new team and will now have to discover if they are fired up to prove him wrong or whether he has managed to lose the dressing room inside a month.

“The players were disappointed because of what I said about my former employers,” Adams said.

“But we have got to get the best players out there on the pitch performing week in, week out.

“It’s up to us to then look at it and be on top form and we need to be performing better, there’s no doubt about that.”
