Ross County 4 Queen of the South 0 as Brian Graham fires Staggies to Championship title

Title-winning Ross County fired in four to seal their return to the Premiership in some style.

The Staggies saw off struggling Queen of the South to clinch the Championship and return at the first time of asking.

There will be a fans’ day and an open bus parade around Dingwall but the promotion party is already in full swing in the Highland town.

It is less than a year since they were relegated from the top-tier but co-bosses Stuart Kettlewell and Steven Ferguson have steadied the ship and taken them back to the big time.

They only needed a point but took all three against Queens, thanks to goals from Ross Stewart, man of the match Josh Mullins and a double from Brian Graham.

County heroes were presented with the trophy after the game and took a well-deserved lap of honour in front of more than 4,000 fans.

Ayr United had been the early pace-setters but County hit the top at Christmas and despite Dundee United’s big-spending they saw the job out.

It is the second time they have lifted the trophy after Derek Adams led the club into the top-flight for the first time in 2012.

The outlook isn’t so bright for Queen of the South.

They are three points off the bottom and have now played one more game than their relegation rivals.

Queens will now face a nail-biting home clash with Partick Thistle next weekend that could decide their Championship standing.
