Ross Callachan will leave Hamilton Accies after activating release clause

Brian Rice has confirmed that Ross Callachan will leave Hamilton Academical this summer.

Two weeks ago, the Accies boss revealed exclusively to Lanarkshire Live that the 27 year-old hadn’t activated a relegation release clause in his contract.

Callachan, however, has exercised the option which allows him to leave for free after interest emerged from clubs in the Scottish Premiership and England.

The former Hearts midfielder scored ten goals for Accies last season and Rice concedes that his departure will be a massive blow.

“I think that Ross Callachan will leave the club this week,” Rice confirmed.

“He’s had a couple of offers and it’s looking as though he will be leaving the club shortly.

“It’s a massive blow to lose a player who scored ten goals from midfield plus his energy and drive.

“It’s also his Monday to Friday work that he brings every single day and he was absolutely fantastic for us.

“It was almost inevitable because when a player scored ten goals for Hamilton then he’s going to have offers.

"Ross was fantastic for us, we were fantastic for him but he’s moving on and we just need to try and replace him.”

Accies boss Rice is working tirelessly to bring in new players this summer and he revealed that Hamilton narrowly missed out on Kyle Turner.

Rice revealed that he spoke to Turner before he joined Partick Thistle (SNS Group)

The 23 year-old held talks with Rice but he decided to move to Championship rivals Partick Thistle.

“We are working really hard and I’m speaking to three or four players.

"I spoke to Kyle Turner and his dad at length but I understand the reasons why he went to Partick Thistle.

“He’d have been fantastic for us because he’s a good age, has super energy and he can play but it wasn’t to be.”
