Ross Callachan not Hearts transfer target as midfielder activates Hamilton release clause

Ross Callachan has left Hamilton Accies after activating a release clause, but won’t be returning to Hearts.

The midfielder hit double figures but couldn’t prevent Hamilton suffering relegation form the Scottish Premiership.

The former Raith Rovers man has taken the opportunity to leave Lanarkshire and is on the look-out for a new club.

Reports last month claimed Callachan was on Hearts’ radar and a potential return to Tynecastle was on the cards.

However, Edinburgh Live understands Robbie Neilson and sporting director Joe Savage have no interest in signing the 27-year-old.

Livingston have also been credited with an interest as Davie Martindale embarks on his first summer window in charge.

Caallachan signed for his boyhood club in September 2017 after Craig Levein raided Raith for his services.

He made a strong start to his time in maroon, scoring twice in his first four matches.

He managed another two before the season was out and added one assist. He also won the late penalty against Celtic as Hearts smashed their long unbeaten domestic run with a 4-0 thumping in Gorgie.

Callachan made 35 appearances in his first season then only 27 in his second, scoring once.

With playing time limited. He moved permanently to St Johnstone for the first half of the following season before joining Dundee on loan , but played just three games for the dark Blues before suffering a broken leg.

A permanent move to Hamilton followed but he departs after just a year playing under Brian Rice.
