Ross Byrne to captain Leinster for the first time in final PRO14 clash with Ulster

Another first for Ross Byrne - the out-half skippers Leinster for the first time in this evening's final regular PRO14 game of the season.

Leinster have already secured a home semi-final in the competition so have the luxury of a week off next week ahead of their Champions Cup final on May 11.

So, for several players - including wingers Fergus McFadden and Dave Kearney - this is their last chance to make an impact with that Newcastle decider in mind.

For others, it could be their final game in blue this season, and even their last game in blue before moving on.

If lock Ryan Baird features off the bench, he will become the 57th player the province have used in their bid to complete back to back doubles.

Head coach Leo Cullen has decided to give all of his frontliners the weekend off after their exertions against Toulouse, so they will have one day shy of three weeks off from competitive action between their European semi-final and final.

Prop Michael Bent is one of those who knows that while he will be needed in the run-up to the next few weeks, unless there is an injury he might not be needed for action.

“There is a drive to be a part of those big days and you are always trying to do your best and be involved when those big days comes around," said the experienced front row.

"You could say the club has already secured a home semi-final but everyone wants to get out there and put in a  good performance because everyone is looking forward to the coming weeks.

"So you want to do well, everyone wants to win as well that is very important.

"We know it is a big one for Ulster, they are wanting to be creating momentum - as are we".

LEINSTER: J O'Brien, F McFadden, J Tomane, N Reid, D Kearney, R Byrne, N McCarthy; J McGrath, B Byrne, M Bent, J Murphy, O Dowling, M Deegan, W Connors, C Doris.
