Ross Barkley’s Chelsea future in major doubt after squad number snub as Blues leave out six senior players

Chelsea have provided a clear indication over the future of six senior players after failing to include them in the 2022-23 list of squad numbers.

With the likes of Conor Gallagher and Armando Broja given shirts for the new campaign, plus even Kepa Arrizabalaga despite talk of a loan move to Napoli, the Blues released their official list on Thursday.

Absentees include Ross Barkley, Billy Gilmour, Kenedy, Michy Batshuayi, Ethan Ampadu and Levi Colwill.

Chelsea are set to cash in on young defender Colwill with a £20million move to Brighton touted during the Blues’ bid for Marc Cucurella.

Ampadu, meanwhile, has been linked with another loan stint in Italy with Gilmour’s future already in doubt having been sent to train with the Under-23s during the pre-season tour of the United States.

A hamstring injury prevented Barkley from featuring in Chelsea’s final friendlies of the summer and Newcastle are just one club linked to his signature.

Kenedy and Batshuayi were more prominent in pre-season yet now also look set for moves elsewhere, amid talk of the pair heading to Brazil and Everton respectively.
