Ross Barkley has revealed Tammy Abraham's role in his decision to join Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal.
Following the arrivals of Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech at Chelsea this summer, the midfielder dropped down the pecking order under head coach Frank Lampard - despite finishing last season strongly.
However, with next summer's European Championships in mind, Barkley has moved to Villa Park in order to remain in Gareth Southgate's plans for the tournament.
The 26-year-old should get regular game time for Dean Smith's side and could make his debut against Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
In his first interview as a Villa player, Barkley has spoken out about the conversation he had with Abraham - who had a loan spell at Villa Park - regarding signing the club.
"It's really exciting and I spoke to Tammy and he explained how he loves the club and said how good it is when the fans were there," Barkley said to Villa TV.
"Hopefully they can all get back soon and we can enjoy it.
"We've adapted well to it but it's not the same without the fans."
Barkley also revealed the role Jack Grealish played in his move.
"We're mates off the field and know each other well," he added. "We've spoke previously and I'm looking forward to playing with him.
"I spoke to him over the past couple of weeks and he's been telling me how good of a club it is and how welcomed I'll be when I come here."
