Rose Ayling-Ellis names Strictly winner for 2022 as she marks a year since iconic 'silent' routine

Nearly 12 months after she lifted the show's famous Glitterball trophy, Rose Ayling-Ellis has predicted the Strictly Come Dancing winner for this year, just as bookies' odds change again.

EastEnders star Rose made Strictly history last year when she became the long-running BBC programme's first ever deaf contestant. She was paired with Giovanni Pernice, who'd previously made the final alongside Georgia May-Foote, Debbie McGee and Faye Tozer and their partnership quickly blew both the judges and viewers away.

Rose and Giovanni delivered a whole host of memorable routines during their time on Strictly including their Show Dance before they triumphed in the final and their Quickstep to Love is an Open Door from Frozen. But it was their Couple's Choice dance to Clean Bandit Symphony that will go down in the Strictly history books as one of the show's most iconic routines of all time.

The moving performance, which Rose and Giovanni reprised for the final and the Strictly arena tour, saw the pair dance to 10 seconds of complete silence in support of the deaf community. And now, a year after taking to the floor for that dance, Rose has given her verdict on who she thinks will follow in her footsteps and win Strictly this time round, tipping Hamza Yassin for victory.

Appearing on This Morning as a guest, she said: Last week, I did say, I think Hamza.… He's such a beautiful dancer, really lovely. I met him personally and his heart is so big. So lovely."

Rose's prediction matches the current Strictly odds, which have wildlife camera man Hamza as the favourite to win, ahead of Helen Skelton and Will Mellor. However, there is a difference of opinion on who will go next, with bookies torn on whether it will be Fleur East or Ellie Taylor who gets the ballroom boot in Blackpool this weekend.
