Roscommon stalwart Cathal Cregg calls time on inter-county career

Cathal Cregg has brought the curtain down on his Roscommon career after 15 seasons.

The Western Gaels man first appeared for the county at senior level in 2006 against Limerick in the League, while he made his Championship debut later that year against New York.

The high points were Connacht titles in 2010 and ‘19, while he missed out on the Nestor Cup success in 2017 having taken a year out.

He also won the Division Two title on three occasions as well as a Division Three title, was nominated for an All Star in 2010 and was selected for the Ireland International Rules team that lost a one-off Test to Australia in Perth in 2014.

Paying tribute to Cregg, who is the games manager for Connacht GAA, Roscommon chairman Brian Carroll said: “Cathal’s dedication and commitment to Roscommon was evident in every one of the 165 appearances he made for our senior team.

“Cathal always had the ability to lift the team when needed and scored 24-184 along the brilliant journey in the primrose and blue. Cathal was a super person to have around our dressing room and is one of life’s gentlemen.”
