Roscommon GAA hit with Covid-19 case but Cavan clash goes ahead

Roscommon have been hit with news of a Covid-19 case in their senior football panel.

The news was confirmed tonight in a statement from Roscommon GAA and comes after the a thrilling win in Armagh last Saturday.

Close contacts have been identified for testing and isolation but it is not yet clear how many panel members are deemed to be close contacts of the positive case.

Roscommon - bound for Division 1 next year after their 3-10 to 0-15 victory at the Athletic Grounds - will fulfil their final league fixture against Cavan this Saturday.

They face Mayo or Leitrim in the Connacht semi-final on November 8 and boss Anthony Cunningham will hope his side is back to full strength for that clash.

"A member of the Roscommon Senior football Panel has tested positive for Covid-19," a statement read.

"On receipt of instructions from the HSE in conjunction with our medical team, the members of the panel and management who have been deemed to be close contacts have now been referred for testing and have also begun their period of restricted movement.

"These Panel members and management will only re-join the panel when deemed safe to do so by the HSE.

"The Senior football Management and Panel have at all times strictly adhered to HSE and Public Health guidelines.

"Roscommon GAA will play Cavan this Saturday in round 7 of the National Football league as planned.

"Roscommon GAA will be making no further comment on this matter."
