Rosanna Davison twins: story of heartache and miscarriages before 'dream' day

When Rosanna Davison gave birth to "beautiful and healthy" twin boys this afternoon, she put smiles on the faces of onlookers all over Ireland.

The 36-year-old is clearly – and understandably – over the moon after the birth of the identical Hugo and Oscar today.

The new arrivals mean Rosanna's family now numbers five, including husband Wes Quirke and daughter Sophia.

Today, she wrote on Instagram that "all our dreams have come true" – and it's impossible not to be delighted for her.

For the former Miss World, today's amazing news comes after a pregnancy she has documented online for fans and followers over recent months.

It's also poignant, especially when you consider the heartache and grief Rosanna has had to battle on other pregnancy journeys.

Her moving story involves 14 miscarriages and a journey that she says involved adapting to the recurring heartbreak – not to mention the "incredible stress" – of losing a baby.

The Dubliner has never shied away from her miscarriages, tackling the subject openly and honestly and doing much to lift the stigma around it.

In October, she told the Irish Mirror her "heart breaks for the women and couples who have received bad news this year and haven’t had their partners by their sides."

"I’m grateful to know that I’ll be giving birth in a strict and safe environment."

Rosanna's first child, Sophia, was born via gestational surrogate last year – a subject the actress and model discussed in moving detail on the Late Late Show earlier this year.

"It was just surreal," she told Ryan Tubridy.

"How can you prepare yourself for meeting a stranger carrying your child?"

This year, she's had a whirlwind journey with Oscar and Hugo, and has opened up about her excitement at having her family complete just in time for Christmas.

She told the Irish Mirror: “After what’s been such an unusual year for us all, I’m especially excited about this Christmas and of course it will be very special with the arrival of our new twin boys, so we intend to make Christmas as magical as possible for them and Sophia."

We wish her all the very best with her gorgeous new twins ahead of the festive period.
