Rosanna Davison admitted she held back from telling her mum about her pregnancy in the beginning as she was afraid to "break her heart again".
The former Miss World received an outpouring of love this week as she revealed she is due to welcome identical twin boys with her hubby Wes Quirke in November.
Her announcement followed the heartbreak of suffering 14 devastating miscarriages before welcoming her first daughter Sophia via gestational surrogacy last year.
Rosanna, 36, who is now five months pregnant described the news as a "miracle" and "one of life’s mysteries".
But, cautious of suffering any more heartbreak, she revealed she didn’t tell her family about her pregnancy joy, and refrained from getting ‘too excited’ until she felt it was safe to do so.
The daughter of Lady in Red crooner, Chris De Burgh said: “I didn’t tell her when I first found out I was pregnant because she’s been through a lot.
“She’s been through the whole journey with me and I didn’t want to break her heart again,” she told Jennifer Zamparelli on RTE’s 2FM.
“So I only told her when I had gone for a scan at six weeks and the doctor detected a heartbeat and at that stage, I rang her because I was so excited I hadn’t got to that point before.
“The next week I rang her again and I said, ‘You’re going to need to sit down there are two heartbeats’.
“Mum and dad knew from the beginning. They’re old and wise enough at this stage not to get too excited about things like that.”
Rosanna said she was “nervous” of sharing her news this week - but she felt it was the right time after reaching the halfway point of the pregnancy.
She said: “It was an emotional day yesterday I was pretty nervous after all we had been through.

“But we have had such an outpouring of love.
“I think our story was just one that others could relate to it could have happened to anyone really who wants to have a family, you never really know what will happen til it happens.
“We’re at the halfway point of the pregnancy so it felt like the right time to put it out there.”
She added: “It’s been quite an amazing few months.
“So they’re due in November not long after Sophia’s birthday, she was born on the 21st of November and I suppose it took us by surprise to be honest but it’s a lovely surprise as well.”
She continued: “We found out around my birthday weekend, in mid-April we found out I was pregnant.
“But having been pregnant before I don’t get particularly excited, it was only over the next few weeks, I had a lot of early scans.
“It took three early scans to detect the second twin hiding in there so that was quite a shock, a happy shock.
“Since then we have just had this lovely secret so we only really just told friends a few days ago so it’s just started to feel real now.”
