Rosanna Davison bravely opens up about heartbreak after suffering 14 miscarriages during path to motherhood

Irish model Rosanna Davison has bravely opened up about suffering 14 miscarriage, sharing how she "questioned her role as a woman" during her difficult pregnancy journey.

Rosanna and  herhusband Wes Quirke welcomed their baby Sophia via gestational carrier last November following years of the Wicklow native sadly being unable to sustain pregnancies due to issues with her immune system.

In an honest interview on The Late Late Show the star told host Ryan Tubridy that the couple started their pregnancy journey in 2016 being "keen to have a baby" and faling pregnant quite quickly, RSVP Live reports.

"I told my family at five-weeks and everyone was thrilled for us, and then sort of abruptly and painfully at six and a half weeks I had a miscarriage.

The mum-of-one told how she suffered from "14 miscarriages" before the couple decided to go down the surrogacy route.

"I think it's a bit different now and people are more sensitive but people would be asking me kind of when are you going to settle down and start a family and nobody was really asking Wes that," she said of the difficult time.

She revealed how she was unable to carry a pregnancy to term as she had a "pretty significant imbalance between th1 and th2 cells, my immune system was reacting to Wes' DNA and seeing it as an invader and killing it.

"Essentially my body was killing my baby," she told Ryan on the RTE One show.

"I questioned my role as a woman, I couldn't do what my body was biologically programmed to do.

"There was time's I asked Wes to leave me, I seriously tried to convince him to leave me."

"I found Christmas tough, mothers day was tough, and I was seeing my friends have babies and obviously i was happy for them but it's tough.

After multiple health treatments to attempt to carry a pregnancy to term herself which were "jeprodizing" her health, the model was recommended a surrogacy option by her doctor.

"Obviously it's terrifying, the idea of a stranger carrying your child is another country is awful.

"I was afraid of the lack of control," she added.

Rosanna said that while seeing the first scan she felt "so many emotions" and "didn't expect it, but it was thinking of all the bumps and kicks I missed.

"What does her (the surrogate's) daughter think? did she think she was getting a sibling?

"I cut her chord. How could you prepare yourself for watching a stranger give birth to your child? I think about it everyday.

"It was surreal and emotional, she's an amazing woman I can never thank her enough, it was the moment we'd been thinking about for years."

The star told how she hoped her appearance on the show would be "opening up conversation on fertility and miscarriage, it's a lonely road, it's traumatic."

"I'm just appealing to people going through it to talk to a trusted friend or family and don't go through it alone," she finished.

Fans took to Twitter to express their awe at the Irish stars bravery, with one user writing, "Very proud of  @rosanna_davison  for sharing her story on the  #LateLateShow  this evening - let it be a lesson to anyone asking others why they don’t have children. Another example of  #BeKind  and  #ThinkBeforeYouSpeak ."

Meanwhile another user commented, "The amount of people  @rosanna_davison  will help tonight!!!"

A third user said, "Powerful interview by Rosanna Davison, a great journey."
