Rory’s Stories tells how his dad struck up unlikely friendship with Niall Horan after he ‘went missing’

Comedian Rory O’Connor’s father ran into Niall Horan at the ISPS Handa World Invitational golf tournament.

The comedian best known for his Facebook Page, Rory's Stories, where he shares his hilarious sketches depicting typically Irish scenarios, took to Facebook to share the news.

He said: “Myself and my father Joe were lucky to be invited up to Galgorm golf and Country club yesterday by tourism Northern Ireland to play in the ISPS Handa World Invitational Pro am.

“Great day, but the auld lad went missing at the dinner and I thought Niall Horan had went home, was ragging I never got the chance to say hello.

“Then I walk out of the room and I hear "did you know my wife is a Westmeath woman"...

“Theres big Joe yapping away to Niall as if he went to college with him. What a gent Niall is.”

Rory’s father Joe was sure to make thousands of Niall Horan fans extremely jealous as he was pictured alongside the singer.

The pair seemed to be getting on like a house on fire as Rory joked it was as if they had gone to college together.

Both Niall and Joe discussed their connections to Westmeath and, of course, to the star’s hometown of Mullingar.

Rory also got his chance to have a chat to Naill and praised him for his humility.

He said: "Had to get a snap with the man myself.

"He is honestly as down to earth as you can get. A credit to the country."

The ISPS Handa World International is presented by Modest! Golf, which was founded by Niall Horan and is now one of the most innovative events in world golf.

Two separate tournaments take place at the event consisting of 144 men and 144 women competing on the same course at the same time for two equal prize funds of $1.5 million each.

The tournament is the first of its kind in the Northern Hemisphere and is a tri-sanctioned event between the European Tour, LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour.

Niall has spent many years forging relationships within the corporate world while also pursuing his music career.

He has worked closely with initiatives such as Drive Chip Tutt in America, which helps to support and encourage the next generation of golfers to break through.

Alongside ISPS Handa, Niall has focused on the promotion of inclusivity for all to participate in golf.
