Rory O'Carroll challenge welcomed by Dublin star Michael Fitzsimons

Michael Fitzsimons could be forgiven for dreading the thought of Rory O’Carroll returning to the Dublin camp.

But not a bit of it. The corner-back welcomes extra competition with O’Carroll (above) after making his first appearance since 2015 against Louth last Saturday.

Fitzsimons said: “The way I see it, if you play your best you put yourself in a great position to do it. Someone new coming in is not going to change that.

“If I can play my best and get to a good level I should be in the team and someone new coming in doesn’t change that.

“It just ramps up competition. It’s usually the way it is, we always get one or two new each year. Eoin Murchan last year was very good.”
