Rory McIlroy won his second Irish Open title with a thrilling play-off victory over Joakim Lagergren.
The world number two and Masters champion eagled the 72nd hole just to take it to a play-off after Lagergren's own stunning eagle at the 16th.
After the first two extra holes were tied in birdie fours, Lagergren found the water hazard third time around to allow McIlroy to win it with two putts.
McIlroy, who also won his home open at the same venue in 2016, said he was thrilled to have paid back the home fans’ support.
"I don’t take it for granted,” he told Sky Sports. “I just feel so lucky that I get to do this in front of these people, and I can’t wait to celebrate tonight.
“The support has been amazing all week. So happy I could play the way I did this week and get the win.
"I feel so fortunate because there are few golfers who get the support I get when they go home. Maybe Jon Rahm in Spain, there's maybe a few others but this is absolutely incredible.”
Lagergren was less pleased with the result, though, saying he was frustrated to have played so well in the week before falling short in the play-off.
"This is a tough one to swallow. I really thought I had that out there today,” he said.
“Obviously posting minus 17 going into the clubhouse, could might as well been enough.
“I played really good in the playoff as well. Hit a solid 5-iron down on the last play, but it got a horrendous bounce. It's a metre from being dead to the hole. So it's tough."
It is McIlroy’s first win since he completed a career Grand Slam at the Masters in April.
