Rory McIlroy to tune up for The Masters in Las Vegas and California

Rory McIlroy will tune up in Las Vegas and California before taking a two-week break in his bid to complete golf's grand slam at The Masters.

The world number four has confirmed he will play both the CJ Cup and the Zozo Championship next month before Augusta.

Moved from South Korea due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all of the world's top five will tee it up in Vegas for the CJ Cup on October 15, including defending champion Justin Thomas and US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau.

McIlroy will then journey to the Sherwood Country Club in California where Tiger Woods will be defending the title he won in Japan last season.

"I'm looking forward to playing in The CJ Cup at Shadow Creek in October," said McIlroy, who finished in a tie for eighth at the US Open earlier this month.

"I've watched how the tournament has become a success over the past few years and it'll be exciting to have the opportunity to compete in it for the first time.

"I had a great time at the inaugural Zozo Championship and will be hoping to build on last year's success when we play at Sherwood. I'll miss playing in Japan this year but hopefully, we'll get to return soon."

McIroy will then refuel, giving both the Bermuda Championship and the Houston Open a miss, before he tries to win his first green jacket.

A win in Georgia for the Holywood man would complete his major collection and end a major drought that stretches back to the 2014 PGA Championship.

Also competing at Augusta (November 12-15) will be reigning Open champion Shane Lowry and Cork amateur James Sugrue, who got an invite after winning the 2019 Amateur Championship.
