Rory McIlroy suffers nightmare Open Championship start

Rory McIlroy has suffered a nightmare Open Championship start, struggling to an eight on the first.

Rors pulled his tee-shot well left of the first fairway and out of bounds at Royal Portrush, having to reload off the tee.

He hacked his ball out of the thick rough into more heavy stuff short of the green, and had to take an unplayable lie.

After hitting a decent pitch to eight feet, he missed the putt to card an opening eight, making him four over par after one hole and seven shots off the lead.

The struggles for Rory aren't much better at the par five second, where he missed the fairway right.

Hopefully he can turn things around and try to get himself back into contention.
