Rory McIlroy net worth as he begins Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits

There are few Irish sports stars who have made as big an impact on the world stage as Rory McIlroy.

The Holywood golfer was named the richest talent on the island of Ireland in the 2020 Forbes Celebrity Rich List, due to his successes on and off the course which has seen him take in more than Conor McGregor and U2.

When the list was released last year he amassed an impressive £39.1m ($52 million), a figure which has undoubtedly risen since then, especially after taking home $1.458 million after winning the Wells Fargo Championship earlier this year - his first win since 2019.

Last year's Times Rich List said the golfer was worth an estimated £167.7 million (€192 million).

Forbes said that McIlroy was behind only Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson in terms of his earning power off the course, with numerous sponsorship deals and business partnerships with with Nike, Omega, TaylorMade, UnitedHealth Group and Upper Deck.

His Nike deal, which was extended in 2017, was said to be worth an enormous £150million. He then signed a second deal with TaylorMade, said to be worth a whopping £75million.

The 32-year-old four time major winner is part of the Europe Team who take on the USA in the 43rd Ryder Cup which begins on Friday.

McIlroy made his Ryder Cup debut in 2010 and has gone to claim four wins.

McIlroy started the competition in he foursomes where he played alongside Ian Poulter in the morning session.
