Rory McIlroy makes €1,600 per swing playing on PGA Tour

Rory McIlroy pockets €1,600 per swing on the PGA Tour, new research has revealed.

The Co Down native has made more money per stroke than any other golfer in the world, with Tiger Woods second on the list at €1,391.

The research, conducted by William Hill, looked at the top 15 golfers on the PGA tour and analysed their career earnings at the tournament against how many swings they have taken to determine earnings per swing.

It found that McIlroy has racked up a massive $1,920 (€1,597) of winnings with every stroke since he joined the PGA Tour.

Incredibly, that figure was €4,036 in just 2019 for McIlroy when he was crowned the FedEx Cup champion, which pocketed him €12million.

In that year, he also won the Players Championship, the Canadian Open, the WGC-HSBC Champions, resulting in him being named the 2018–19 PGA Tour Player of the Year.

A spokesperson from William Hill commented: "As ever, this year’s PGA Tour is hotly anticipated. We know that the PGA Tour winnings are always substantial which got us thinking, how much do these golfers really earn every time they swing their club? This season in particular looks set to be really exciting and we can’t wait to see who comes out on top."

McIlroy was advised to take a break from golf after he suffered an early exit from the Masters for just the second time in his career earlier this month.

Former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley said: “He’s starting to doubt himself, confusion in his swing and nobody’s ever played well with a whole lot of thoughts in your head.

“There’s a lot of work to be done.

“I think the best thing for Rory is a few weeks in the sunshine on a beach somewhere and clear his head. Sometimes the harder you try at this game the harder it gets, no matter how talented you are.”

Tiger Woods’ former coach Butch Harmon added: “Rory’s out of sorts.

“I agree with what Paul said – a couple of weeks off down in the Bahamas with the family, just relax, get away from golf and then come back with a fresh outlook.

“I said coming into this week it was going to be difficult bringing a new golf swing into a major championship. First of all, bad shots are part of the process, as we’re seeing.

“The difficulty is when you come in with a new swing you don’t have the confidence in it – it works on the range, for practice rounds. That doesn’t mean anything until you have to put it in play.

“To have made the change right before coming into a major. Was that the right thing to do? I don’t know. He picked the right guy, that’s for doggone sure. He’s had success with everybody he’s ever touched.”
