Rory McIlroy hit his first British Open shot out of bounds on his way to first hole quadruple bogey

Oh no.

Rory McIlroy came into the 2019 Open Championship as the favorite, both among bettors and fans in Northern Ireland at Royal Portrush. But his start to the British Open was nothing short of a disaster.

By the time he knocked in his final shot on No. 1, he ended up with an 8 for a quadruple-bogey.

His opening tee shot went out of bounds. His next shot off the tee again — his third for scorecard purposes — went into the rough. His fourth went into more rough and a drop was necessary for an unplayable lie. He chipped on to the green, missed a putt and finally sunk his eighth shot.
