Rory McIlroy is ready to go for this week’s U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.
That much was clear as he sent a message all weekend en route to a seven-shot victory in his RBC Canadian Open debut.
McIlroy closed with a lights out 9-under 61 to boat race the field and close in style at 22-under-258 for the week. It’s the lowest score in tournament history and came just one week after McIlroy missed the cut at the Memorial Tournament.
Following a 6-under 64 Saturday to grab a share of the 54-hole lead, McIlroy said the missed cut gave him an opportunity to work on his driving and wedge play. He was absolutely pummeling perfect drives all weekend, which isn’t that surprising given how prolific he has been with the big stick throughout his career.

But when he can combine it with excellent wedge play, as we saw throughout the week at Hamilton Golf and Country Club, McIlroy is playing a different golf course than his fellow competitors.
The 30-year-old from Northern Ireland now has 25 international victories, including 16 on the PGA Tour. This was his second win this season after the Players Championship and put the rest of the U.S. Open field on notice.
Having gone five years without a major victory, McIlroy has never looked this good throughout the bag in the days leading up. And he’ll have the perfect chance to keep things rolling this week at Pebble Beach.
McIlroy is the fourth two-time winner on tour this year and the first to win twice since the calendar flipped to 2019.
