Rory McIlroy excited to visit barbers after stopping wife from cutting overgrown hair

Rory McIlroy wouldn't let his wife cut his hair during lockdown and is delighted to finally have the chance to get it chopped.

The 30-year-old revealed he's had to fend off his wife Erica's attempts to cut his overgrown mop during lockdown.

The Irishman has been bunkered down in Florida during the Covid-19 shutdown and is relieved that barber shops and salons have reopened in the US state ahead of his return to golf on Sunday.

"I'm so happy that hairdressers and barber shops have opened again," McIlroy told Golf TV.

"I haven't let my wife, Erica, anywhere near my hair since this whole thing.

"It's under the hat now, but it's sort of covering my face, so I'm ready for a haircut."

McIlroy last month joked about the 'terrible' length of his hair in a throwback to his earlier days as a professional.

In his early days as a pro, he sported long curly hair, and has let it grow again while on lockdown across the Atlantic.

When asked to reveal his hair, McIlroy obliged and joked about its 'terrible' length and compared it to his hairstyles of the early 2010's.
